Hello Ana

How can I keep my nail polish on without peeling if I am constantly wearing latex gloves at work? I also have had badly peeling nails for ever since I can remember. Help??

Thanks so much for your clear, thoughtful article. I have peeling and sometimes splitting nails and have tried numerous products, including OPI Nail Envy, which, so far, has been the best…. But, I do find it seems to dry out my nails and the jury’s out on whether my manicures last much longer. I get so tired of trying cosmetics with VERY carefully-worded and usually dishonest marketing claims. I noticed today that my spa has dropped full gel applications, although they still apply Orly shellac, because they say the gel was found to harm nails. I was all ready to book my first gel before this. Then, I thought I’d do a little more research beforehand. After reading your article, I think I’ll work on the oil method to more naturally strengthen my often peeling and breaking nails. Love this site!

In reply to Anne Mannette-Wright. Anne, Doug Schoon and I are not buying into the formaldehyde hype. It's not the same as formaldehyde resin. The resin is created as a result of combining formaldehyde with other ingredients to create a completely different product. It's like trying to say that glass is sand. Glass starts as sand, but it has gone through a chemical process that has completely changed its structure. Hope that helps.

Can you comment on all of the ‘hype ‘ about formadehyde in nail products and it’s link to cancer? I find myself now wondering if I should get rid of all of my formadehyde based nail products.

Just getting to this NOW, I know. I’ve been struggling with weak and brittle nails my whole life and after a very brief (and I mean less than two weeks) stint with a self-applied gel – I’m back to the old protein treatment. Honestly, it’s the only thing that works. If I use Nailtiques II faithfully, then my nails will grow, but not without constant vigilance. I just bought Seche Natural because it was cheaper at CVS and am going to give it a go and see how it works. Thank you for the insightful info! I’ve checked the packaging and it does seem like the Seche Natural was a good choice, but we shall see! For now, I’m staying FAR away from those gel polishes and UV lamps – even in this frigid New England weather, it can’t be good!!!

In reply to Sandra. Sandra, It is frustrating that we can't ship the polishes internationally. Royal Mail is extremely diligent at destroying polish. You will receive all of the instructions with your order. Once you have polish on after the 3 Day Hydration Treatment, continue to oil your skin and nail polish 2 or more times per day (I'm usually 4). This will keep your skin soft and actually helps reduce premature cracking of your polish.

Hi. Can’t wait for my delivery of oil to the UK-such a shame cannot get the base and top coat delivered-maybe in the future. Please could you let me know-after the three days of oil-how often I repeat the process once I start wearing polish. Struggling to know what to use as a base coat here in the UK. My nails have length but are ridged. Your page is amazing, keep up the good work!

This totally makes sense! I’ve always had brittle nails, nails that even when short you can see they are peeling. I am healthy and my hair and skin are not dry, but my nails have always been an issue. I have tried darn near if not every nail hardener on the market but my nails have never been soft and ‘peely’.. more like peely and brittle. None of the nail hardeners I have tried have EVER stopped the peeling — actually nothing has.

I came across this oil and I’ve been oiling like crazy for the past few days. I just placed an order for more pens b/c I want to make sure that I always have a pen on hand. I think constant oiling might just be the missing link for me. It certainly isn’t nail hardeners.
