Before I started chemo I was advised by the nurses at the hospital to start painting my nails with a dark polish to help protect them. However, I was told nothing at all about the fact that I should wear base coat and top coat, that I should use a cuticle oil and strengthener, or any of the other information that Ana covers on her blog. I discovered all this information after the damage had been done, unfortunately, because I discovered nail art supplies when I was looking for nail polishes to use, and I started searching online for all the information I could find about nail art and where to buy supplies, because nail art is only just taking off here, other than in salons, so there aren’t many supplies for DIYers. My nails went all brown, started to flake and peel, and even came away from the nail bed. Needless to say, I am now using cuticle oil (not Ana’s yet, but some should be on the way soon) and strengthener, and a base and top coat with every nail art job. At the moment I am wearing a Skittlette design comprising of the OPI “Pink of Hearts” set from 2013 – 2 pink glitter nails, 2 plain pink nails, and one white nail with a rhinestone and pink ribbon on it. My nails are SLOWLY growing out, but I’m not sure if the problem with them coming away from the nail bed will come right or not. I also suffer from hangnails, so I’m hoping the Pure Nail Oil will help that problem like it did for Ana. My psychologist, who really helped me when I nearly died from pneumonia whilst having chemo, and I were talking about this in my last session, and I mentioned that nail care is not covered in a program we have here in Australia called “Look Good, Feel Better”, which is for ladies going through cancer to help them keep themselves looking beautiful, and thus feeling better in themselves, by spending a couple of hours with beauty consultants and hairdressers in a free session, learning how to wear wigs and turbans, how to look after their skin, and also how to use their makeup to cover up the hairloss on their eyes and eyebrows as well. Each lady is given a gift bag of wonderful makeup donated by some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Chanel, Sisheido, Revlon, Max Factor, L’Oreal, just to name a few, and I came home with about $300 worth of free makeup, but there were no nail care items. Now my psychologists is going to suggest to the organisers of these sessions that I go along to the sessions to give these wonderful ladies some advice on looking after their nails and protecting them whilst they are going through chemotherapy, and of course afterwards as well. I don’t know what will eventuate, but all this came about simply because I was upset about the damage to my nails and went out and got all the best advice I could find from wherever I could find it, and I would love to be able to help others do the same. So, Ana, I hope your nail oil works as well as it appears to have done with so many others, because I could really use it, and if it does, it might lead to you getting a lot of orders from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, where I live. Thank you for sharing all your advice, and skills, with us all. You are a treasure, and I wish I had found your site before I started my chemo. (Sorry this was so long, but I really wanted you to know the whole story of why I’m going to try your nail oil).
